Embassy of Myanmar in Dhaka announces China and ASEAN countries did not give consent to create safe zone inside Myanmar

Kyaw Chit / DMG March 6, Sittwe
The People’s Republic of China and ASEAN Member Countries did not give any consent to create a safe zone inside Myanmar, the embassy of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar in Dhaka said in a statement on March 4.

The Bangladesh online news media service, named “ Banglanews 24”, on March 3 published an article in which it said that China gave consent to set up a safe zone inside Myanmar.

This information is totally baseless, distorted and is in contrast with real on-the-ground situations, the embassy of Myanmar in Dhaka said in its statement.
“Publishing such kind of fake news may lead to a misunderstanding between both countries and it would not contribute towards the bilateral efforts of Myanmar and Bangladesh trying to resolve the displaced persons issue amicably,” the embassy of Myanmar in Dhaka said.

The embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Myanmar also announced that China did not support to establish a safe zone inside Myanmar for displaced people and the article published by Banglanews24 displayed an utter and complete lack of credibility.
The statement from the Chinese embassy in Yangon stated that China’s position on Rakhine issue was always consistent.

“China promotes early repatriation of displaced persons after properly resolving relevant issues through dialogue and negotiations between Myanmar and Bangladesh which are in line with their agreements for the repatriation of displaced persons,” the statement said.
