Since December 2018, Myanmar military has deliberately targeted and killed more than 82 and injured more than 126 civilians in Arakan State. The Myanmar authorities have repeatedly killed, tortured, beaten, threatened, harassed, detained, and injured hundreds of civilians. Millions of Arakanese have been traumatized by the actions of the Myanmar government forces. This has led to widespread fear and insecurity among Arakanese people. In addition, the oppressive measures exercised by the Myanmar government dehumanize the powerless Arakanese minority communities.

The Arakan American Community condemns Myanmar military and government for committing war crimes in Arakan State that is amounting to a form of ethnic cleansing and genocide. The Myanmar government is currently been put into trial in the International Court of  Justice for genocide in Arakan State for their earlier crimes committed in 2016.
