Statement rejecting the untruth by the Commander in Chief, Myanmar Army

12 February 2020

Statement rejecting the untruth by the Commander in Chief, Myanmar Army,
issued on the 10th and 11th February 2020

The Myanmar Army, self-identified as Tatmadaw, on the 10th and 11th February 2020, conducted indiscriminate and extensive artillery attacks and arson on villages in Kyauktaw and Rathedaung Townships including Rak-khung-daung village in Rathedaung, and Mrauk-taung village of Kyauktaw. The Myanmar Army and its fabricated media campaign wing put the blames on our organization, the Arakan Army, for all the war crimes they committed in the area afterwards and issued two pieces of baseless and fabricated news devoid of any grain of truth.

On the other hand, the inhuman atrocities perpetrated to those villages and their residents are heinous acts of the Myanmar Army alone. The local villagers in the area and those who were targeted will stand testimony to the wicked acts by the Tatmadaw troops. Since the cutoff of the Internet for the second time in five townships of Arakan and Chin State, the Tatmadaw has been engaged in smearing campaigns against the Arakan Army for all the evil acts they have committed against the unarmed civilians.

The Myanmar Army has also been making hideous attempts at shifting their human rights violations and war crimes on the Arakan Army in front of the international community.

We reject all the lies issued by the Commander in Chief of Myanmar Army's office on the 10th and 11th February 2020 as totally baseless and maligning campaign against the good name of the Arakan Army.

United League of Arakan/Arakan Army
